Answer

Summary

Due to an upgrade problem with Mac OS X, on some systems, the PCSC daemon may become corrupted and block any communication to a smartcard reader. This article describes a workaround for this issue.
Impacted devices are DIGIPASS 870, DIGIPASS 905 and DIGIPASS 920.
